If you are looking at GibsonUSA Les Paul, up until end of 2013 the frets were FW55090 (aka "6105). For 2014 they went to a much lower fret height along with other "improvements" like the zero fret brass nut and hologram on the back of the headstock. The composition of this fret wire, while called "nickel/silver", contains no silver at all. The ingredients are brass and nickel. For general reference we use Dunlop's fret numbers, however, actual fret dimensions vary somewhat from batch to batch. Our nickel/silver fretwire is rated at HV 170 on the Vickers hardness scale.

Dunlop 6000 Accu-Fret® fretwire. The 6000 series is the largest wire Dunlop offers. Both tall and wide, has maximum mass for easy bending and a scalloped feel. Once the neck is removed, you can start removing the frets. Take a soldering gun and file a notch in the end of soldering tip just big enough for the fret wire to fit in. Plug the soldering gun in and run the tip of the gun across the length of the fret. Heat the fret evenly and make sure to stay at least 1/8″ away from the edges of the fret.
